The Norton Shores Orchard Snickerdoodle Cookie
The Norton Shores Orchard Snickerdoodle Cookie
This apple and brown sugar snickerdoodle is a commemoration to the early Muskegon settlers who saw the potential for fruit farming in West Michigan. Just over a century ago, our own Mona Lake was lined with fruit orchards and groves in the area we now call Norton Shores. The fruits from these farms were sought after by many merchants throughout the Midwest. Mona Lake itself got its name from a local civil war Colonel’s daughter, Mona May. Her father, Col. Frederick May was the President of the bustling West Michigan Railroad, a key turn of the century hub for shipping. It was this railroad along with several schooners that transported these highly sought after fruits throughout the Mid West. Now that same old-world charm is available in Gluten-Free. Remember too that each purchase from The 490 Bakery goes toward helping those who are breaking the cycle of poverty, addiction or incarceration.
