Jackson Hill Farmer’s Market Cookie
Jackson Hill Farmer’s Market Cookie
In honor of one of Muskegon’s first neighborhoods, we offer the Jackson Hill Farmer’s Market Cookie. A cookie filled with dried Michigan cherries, blueberries and just a hint of Georgia pecan to make it perfect.
Jackson Hill (known as“Kilgrubben” by the lumberjacks in the late 1800’s) was a popular farmer’s market drawing folks from all over the Lakeshore. In the late nineteenth century, local farmers brought their horse drawn wagons down to the waterfront to sell their goods. As the farmer’s market became more popular, more space was needed. A large parcel of land was used in the Jackson Hill area near Ryerson Creek and Yuba Street. This cookie transports you to a simpler time when horses provided transport to fresh fruits and vegetables to Muskegon's First Ward.
